Instructions - Media outreach program

Media coverage of research being presented at Congress serves to remind Canadians of the value of the humanities and social sciences, and of the important contributions these disciplines make to the advancement of knowledge. The Federation plays a key role in making this happen, by running a media outreach program for our members. Media attention gives you, your association and your institution valuable promotion in and out of the academic community and increased visibility with the broader public.

What we can do for you:

The Federation actively engages with media in the weeks and days ahead of Congress to build awareness around the exciting research being presented. We help journalists navigate the extensive programming and facilitate their access to researchers.

To participate, you must:

  • Opt into the media outreach program by April 22, 2022.
  • Be presenting your research at Congress, or be a panelist/speaker at Congress.
  • Be registered for Congress. You can register here.
  • Present your research for the first time. Your research must not have been published before.
  • Have permission from your co-presenters, if you are presenting as part of a group.
  • Be willing to make yourself available and give media interviews, if you get media attention.
  • Work with your association's president and Program Chair to make your research presentation an open event for all Congress attendees.

What we need from you:

If you wish to participate in this program, and have the Federation pitch your research to the media, please complete the form. You will be asked to submit your contact details, along with a brief synopsis of your research presentation. Please submit a separate form for each research presentation, if you have multiple presentations at Congress.

Note: We cannot guarantee that we will be able to pitch your story to the media, nor can we guarantee that stories will receive media attention. That said, we will do our best!
