Subsidy overview
This fund was created to ensure that parents and caregivers can participate in the Big Thinking Summit: Future-ready graduate education in Canada at McMaster University in Hamilton, October 15- 16. This grant is for parents and caregivers whose research intersects with the humanities and social sciences. It aims to help cover the costs related to child and dependent care that may hinder their attendance at the Big Thinking Summit.
The subsidy of $250 will be processed following the Summit. Eligible expenses under the Child and Dependent Care Subsidy program include:
- Additional child or dependent care costs incurred to attend the Summit;
- Additional costs for a hotel, travel or coworking space.
The subsidy cannot cover opportunity costs such as lost wages.
Eligibility
Candidates must meet the following criteria:

Their research or graduate contributions must intersect with the humanities and social sciences;

Provide an application statement detailing professional status and dependent care needs (priority will be given to graduate students, early career researchers);

Attend the Big Thinking Summit: Future-ready graduate education in Canada at McMaster University in Hamilton, October 15-16.

Process
Eligible applicants can apply directly to this fund by submitting the application form.
Applicants must provide a list of child/dependent care needs. Recipients will be selected through a lottery among eligible candidates.
The Federation will verify attendance at the Summit. Funding decisions will be communicated to all applicants by October 13, 2025.
To apply, please submit this form by October 10, 2025, at 23:59 ET. Applications will be kept confidential within the Federation.
Successful applicants will are required to submit a banking information form by October 24, 2025, at 23:59 ET.
The subsidy will be disbursed directly to the applicant, conditional upon the timely receipt, and accurate completeness of their form, and after confirmation of their attendance at the Big Thinking Summit: Future-ready graduate education in Canada at McMaster University in Hamilton, October 15-16.
